Removing of Campaign Posters

Young environmentalists took down campaign posters nailed to trees around Quezon City on Saturday and berated candidates for setting "bad examples for first-time voters."

The activity was organized by the environmental group Kalikasan (Nature)- People's Network for the Environment (PNE) and joined by the Student Action and Voice for the Environment (SAVE) and the League of Youth for the Environment (LYFE).

SAVE’s Meggie Nolasco, in the same statement, tagged the senatorial candidates and party-list groups “irresponsible” and said they “do not deserve our vote and to win in the coming election."

"The manner in which we treat our trees says a lot about how we regard our environment and, ultimately, the welfare of the people," Nolasco added.

Aside from being eyesores, Nolasco said nailing campaign materials to trees violates laws protecting trees in public places such as Presidential Decree 953 and Republic Act 3571, and the Commission on Elections’ prohibition on posting election propaganda outside designated common poster areas.

Insights:
These candidates must know and respect the environment. And maybe they forget that TREES are one of it. They must not disregard the importance of these living things.. They must be aware and be wise in doing such actions..

Change a Light Bulb and Change the World

Save Energy, Money and the Environment with Compact Florescent Light Bulbs
If you want to change the world, start by changing a few light bulbs. It is one of the best things you can do for the environment—and your budget.

According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, if every U.S. household replaced just one regular incandescent light bulb with a compact florescent light bulb, it would prevent 90 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, the equivalent of taking 7.5 million cars off the road. And the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says that by replacing regular light bulbs with compact florescent light bulbs at the same minimal rate, Americans would save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year.

Reasons to Switch to Compact Florescent Light Bulbs

On top of that, replacing one regular light bulb with an approved compact florescent light bulb would save consumers $30 in energy costs over the life of the bulb.

Compact florescent light bulbs use at least two-thirds less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light, and they last up to 10 times longer. Compact florescent light bulbs also generate 70 percent less heat, so they are safer to operate and can also reduce energy costs associated with cooling homes and offices.

How Much Can You Save by Using Compact Florescent Light Bulbs?

For most people, this offers a lot of opportunity for energy and cost savings. Lighting accounts for 20 percent of the electric bill in the average U.S. home, and the average home has approximately 30 light fixtures.

To save the most energy and money by using compact florescent light bulbs, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends replacing standard bulbs in areas where lights are used frequently and left on for a long time, such as family rooms, living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, and porches.

Insights:
There is no harm in changing our bulbs.. It helps us lessen the effect of the greenhouse gas emission from power plants... We can even save money with these..
Let us all help our environment.. Let's think and be a responsible citizen.

Global Warming Warning~!

There is an announced warning about the global warming that we are experiencing today. The well-known people and the scientist declared the worst findings that might happen in our world. They said that the cause of this global warming were the people and their human activities.

Global Warming started when the ozone layer got holes because of he unawareness of the people. Because of this, the sudden change in our climate tooks place. Because of the hole in the ozone layer the rays of the sun is directly hitting the earth's surface resulting heat at the atmosphere.

Causes of global warming based on the report on Europe late February 2007:
Toxic Flames or the air that came from the industrial plant or factory.
The smoke from the different vehicle present now
The burning of the Rubber and wheels of the vehicle
Plastic Products
Illegal logging

Effect: The world is surrounded by poisious atmosphere

The experts warns people to be prepared in experiencing more weather disturbance such as super typhoon and storm, huge flood and large scale landslide, mega tornadoes and hurricanes that might come in the next few years.Although they added, that the scary and devastating and disastrous effects of global warming are yet to occur in the coming century or two. It is not too late for the government of different countries to make some move to lessen the bad effect of this.

The scientists advised humankind that "NOW,IMMEDIATELY, and PRONTO.. let us all plant trees in every space available around us to counter the bad effects to us off global warming: a 'green world' will do this planet good."
Trees inhale the suffocating and poisonous carbon dioxide, while they exhale tha invigorating and exhilarating oxygen needed by the populance.

TREES ARE LIFE.

A FOREST FOR THE CHILDREN

ECO-Walk Environmental Awareness Program For Children(Baguio, Philippines)

Six hours from Manila, a unique governanceproject is demonstrating how the localcommunity, church, business, schools andgovernment are working together towardthe common goal of saving a forest for theirchildren. Despite efforts by government toaddress this problem over the years, it isonly through the power of partnership, galvinized by children, that the problem isbeing effectively addressed.

CONTEXT
Watersheds serving Baguio City have dried up due to intensive illegallogging, heavy in-migration and the unauthorized conversion of forest landfor small farming and squatting. The forest cover of Busol watershed, thesecond largest supplier of water to Baguio City, has declined from 80percent in the 1960s to 20 percent today. In 1993, the Eco-Walk was born. A unique program for children, the ideawas to preserve and renew the forest cover of Busol watershed through anenvironmental awareness program. The program was designed tocomplement classroom discussion on environmental concepts by providingchildren an outdoor arena where they could connect concepts with real-lifesituations.

THE PLAYERS
The members of a local media group, who had grown up in the forests, initiated the Eco-Walk. The Eco-Walk isled by the Baguio Regreening Movement (BRM), an organization composed of government agencies, NGOs andbusiness entities. The Chair of the BRM is Reverend Bishop Ernesto Salgado, an influential personality in thispredominantly Catholic region. The charismatic mayor, Honorable Mauricio Domogan, plays a vital role in theBRM activities, as does the Department of Environment and Natural Resources

THE PROCESS
The BRM adopted the devastated Busol watershed as the site of the value-formation program. Here thechildren explore, plant and tend their own seedlings under the guidance of volunteers and forestry officials. This experiential learning process allows children to appreciate the value of the forest in their lives and becomeaware of indigenous practices of forest management. To date, the children have planted over 12,200 seedlings, with a survival rate of 97 percent.Between 1996 and March 1999, over 11,000 children, government employees, high school and college students,socio-civic groups, youth clubs and business organizations have participated in the Eco-Walk, bringingenvironmental awareness to a wide cross-section of society.

IMPACT
Through the Eco-Walk, the children are rehabilitating the forest they will inherit one day. They influence familymembers by talking about the forest and asking for reassurance that their trees will grow to maturity. The project has produced videos, newsletters and manuals forvolunteer guides. Its weekly TV program, “Eco-Walk on the Air”, reachesa wider segment of the community with environmental issues andconcerns. A journalism workshop for children in Grades 4 and 5 trainsthem in print and broadcast journalism skills, with the expectation thatthey will eventually take over the TV show, radio program andnewsletter. Perhaps the mostsignificant result of the projecthas been the production of 17teaching modules based on theEco-Walk, which are now beingpilot tested in the publicschools of Baguio. Themodules will be included in theGrade 5 and 6 curricula.Although government laws andenforcement techniques wereunable to stop illegal loggingin the past, combining theforces of government, businessand civil society rallying around the children has produced valuableresults. Illegal logging and tree poaching has fallen dramatically in thewatershed since the children started to visit the forest regularly, asillegal loggers became embarrassed to be seen cutting tress whenchildren were planting them.

INSIGHT:

I can say that this project is a great idea. People behind this project are so kind hearted and very concern to the future of the youth today. I am glad that there are people who wants to secure the future of the children today. They wanted to secure the resources that will be very important in surviving of the children today.
It is also nice that these little angels, the children, are voluntary and very excited about this project. The children were the one who is very eager to make this project happen. At this very age, they are aware of what might happen in their future and they are helping the elders to provide right number of resources, although not all people are supportive with this project.. But atleast some are willing to listen to the stories of the children that had been relayed to one person to another. With this simple relaying of the message this movement received some sponsorships and members and volunteers who wants to plant trees for the childrens future.

Children today knows the benefit of this act. And they also know that they plant trees inexchange to the trees that had been cut down by the illegal loggers.

I chose this topic so that I can help them reach the other people that doesnt know that a movement or a program like this exist. And for the other people that might want to help this program, you are very welcome to be a part of this reconstruction of our environment.

Thank you for the people who educate our young innocent children about whats happening to our environment.

Extinction of our Main Solvent

Much less than one percent of the Earth's water is available for human use. This still represents a huge amount of water. This water is not distributed evenly over the planet. Areas that have large water needs may have to bring water in from long distances to service homeowners, businesses and agriculture. For example, southern and central California gets most of their water from northern California, which receives more rainfall.
The Middle East and Mexico suffer from water shortages. Much of the shortage in developing countries is from poor use of existing water supplies, due to pollution and waste.

In Illinois, there is usually enough water to use for drinking, agriculture, and manufacturing. As cities grow larger and industries expand, however, water use increases. This may require creating additional sources of water, by either drilling more water wells, or making a lake. Taxes and increased water bills usually pay for construction of public water supplies. By conserving water use, existing water supplies can be used longer, allowing towns, cities, and industries to grow without the need to find additional sources of water.

What are some ways individuals can conserve water?
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The chart shows that clothes washing, showers/baths, and flushing toilets make up 80 percent of a households water usage. Using low flow devices on showerheads, toilets, and faucets will make a big difference in the amount of water a household uses.
For example, an older toilet uses 5 to 7 gallons per flush. New low flow toilets only use 1.6 gallons per flush. Standard showerheads use 5 gallons per minute, while low flow showerheads use 2.5 gallons per minute. Frontloading washing machines will use only 40 percent of the water a top loading washer will use. Water savings can add up quickly.
Repairing leaky faucets and toilets will also conserve water. Even a small drip will waste many gallons of water in a day.

Insights:
In our world today, all living creatures needs water in order to continue living. water is essential to all known forms of life on Earth. There is so much uses for the water. We can't tell that the supply of water in a certain place will last forever or will not be affected by the changes that might happen in a span of time. As people, we use water as our main solvent and it is considered as one of our main need. People uses water for drinking, for food preparations, solvent, as a thermal transfer agent and for recreational purposes such as exciting sports and exercise. As we can see, the demand for water is very high and as people or the population is growing the demand for it increases. But the question is, Is the supply of water enough for the growing population and will be enough for the future? We can hardly tell the answer to this question. But as we observe to our surroundings our precious water is getting extinct and more polluted these days.. As an act for this pollution phenomena on water, people must act and think of what are they doing and they must know the causes of the activities they perform. We must conserve water and we must use it wisely. We, people is the one responsible for the changes in water and for it becoming polluted, so we must act about it. We should not be abusive in enjoying the natural resources, the water.
